Decline of email “push” marketing

I’ll admit that this is a post written semi in hope. I can’t remember the last time I received a marketing email that I actually acted upon. My normal approach is to delete unread, occasionally opening them to see if I can unsubscribe without the risk of validating my email address to spammers.

I have adopted a more “don’t call me I’ll call you approach”. And I don’t think I’m alone.

For me, email is increasingly becoming a pure personal communications channel. Interrupting this is as annoying to me as if a phone call was interrupted by someone trying to sell me something.

If there’s something I’m looking for I’ll go and research the best and most appropriate option. If something is new and really that good I’ll probably hear about it through social networks like Twitter or Facebook or various forums of interest that I frequent.

Is anybody else with me?
